will keenan interview
Interview with will keenan from
the ghastly love of johnny x
CMM.COM: Tell me a little about your experience making Johnny X
Will Keenan : Twas certainly the looongest production in which I've ever starred (took over 6 years to make) & methinks in my lifetime it'll be the last black & white wide-screen musical ever shot on film, so I'm honored to be part of such cinematic history:)
CMM.COM: How was the filming experience ?
Will Keenan : Every day Director Paul Bunnell made it a very fun set (...otherwise a 6 year shoot schedule in addition to my full leather wardrobe in the desert almost made it unbearable... I still beg forgiveness for my heatstroke-outbursts from the costume designer & co-financier/co-EP Kristina West!;)
CMM.COM :Several talented actors/actresses were in the film including cult icon Paul Williams. Were you able to meet him?
Will Keenan : Yes, I loved hanging out abit with Paul & Kevin McCarthy, both legends & I learned a lot from them back then... True gentlemen.
CMM.COM: The film has achieved a cult status. Why do you think that is?
Will Keenan : Besides it being the very last black & white anamorphic musical feature ever shot on film (in my lifetime)? I'd then say it's due to Paul's filmmaking, Ego Plum's music & the brillz performances by the whole cast (twasn't easy acting bad on purpose;)
CMM.COM Do you have any fond memories of making Ghasty Love?
Will Keenan : Yerp! Almost too many to recount:) Working with so many great people over such a long period of time gave me many great stories, but I dare ya to ask my co-star De Anna Joy Brooks about her "pantyhose monster" schtick... Oh & then there's that time "they" say I almost killed everybody with that car stunt;)
CMM.COM: Do you have a favorite song in the film?
Will Keenan: Probably the one where I maybe sing okay? ("Here We Go")
CMM.COM Do you have any fun facts or secrets from the set ?
Will Keenan : I heard on good authority the reason audiences notice a film-grade change in the Oscar winning movie "The Artist" is because Paul Bunnell refused to sell Harvey Weinstein the last existing short-ends of JohnnyX's film stock. Derp.
